Escaping the grip of religion

Have you ever thought about what happens when you hold a banana without the peel and squeeze the life out of it? It seems very slimy and messy, but if you notice that as you squeeze the now new mushy banana it seeps through the crevasses of your fingers and surprisingly the banana escapes your grip. I find that true when one is trying to get out of the hard grip of religion, meaning the obligation and the angst (pressure) about living up to others expectations. So let’s just say religion has gripped you so tight that you can hardly breath and the only way to survive without losing sight of God, is to escape that grip and let go of what is holding on to you.

I was pondering on the journey that Father has me on and trying to escape the grip that religion has on my life. I have prayed and thought constantly about it for several days on end and came to a partial conclusion that Father is taking hold of my life in a new profound way. God is becoming more real outside of religion in my life.

I happen to come across this scripture a couple of days ago.

Titus 3:4-7

But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

I like the part, “But when the kindness and love of God our savior appeared he saved us, not because or righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy”, it is but for his mercy that sets us free from our selfish righteousness instead of trying to be as holy as God which in my opinion, is impossible. My walk is becoming more about him, than it is about me.
