Double Standards

I ran into a movie trailer today that a friend posted about abortion and how people are tricking girls and pressuring them to get abortions. It does look like a good documentary and seems to reveal what’s behind the scene that hasn’t been known, though this is of course very anti – choice and that of a political and moral issue.

There is something I found to be quite a double standard and makes me question why our beliefs and support of such things can contradict and be on the opposite side of other things we believe to be the ‘way’ to go in regards to ‘LIFE’ issues. I usually hate to talk about anything political, but this observation that I have made couldn’t pass me by.

Republican’s/Conservative’s are pro-life supporters, and they also support our troops. Here’s where things get hazy. We support life here in America, but could care less about it outside of America. Our military capitalizes on the efforts to take ‘out’ the enemy even if it kills innocent lives in the process. I was watching this you tube video that is a recording of U.S troops killing innocent people in the Middle East, and they don’t even call this murder. These guys probably didn’t even get a slap on the wrist for this kind of bull shit. So we condemn killing innocent babies, but promote and support our military murdering people outside of our own country. It doesn’t make sense to me at all! It almost makes me not want to be a part of this elite group we also know as The Republican/Conservative Party. An argument would be that people support our troops and wars elsewhere to protect 'our' freedom in the U.S. Though to me, this isn't freedom, it's just more bondage when we don't blink an eye at how maybe our country is only concerned for itself because we must keep our rank in the world, regardless what this does to others outside our walls.

Its just sickening!

If you’re going to be pro-life, be pro-life all the way, not this inconsistent biased approach just for our ‘own’ kind.

Here are two movie trailers that are both Pro-life. One is about that documentary I mentioned earlier about abortion. The other one is about another documentary that is about violence and how it seems that we have forgotten what is like to be human when we support such violence.

I do not want to sound offensive, but you obviously do not have a real comprehension about war and some of the inevitable and unavoidable occurrences that take place in it. There are civilian casualties that do occur and, as sad as that is, that is just a fact of life. There is no other nation on earth (with the exception of Israel) that takes such precautions to avoid such incidences - even at times to the jeopardizing of our own troops who have "volunteered" to guard and defend us and our freedoms - not to mention their doing so for citizens of other nations, as well. They willing put their lives on the line day by day while in combat and their doing so has resulted in the vastly greater number of people (both United States citizens and citizens of other nation)having more lives saved than killed. (often by despotic and inhumane leaders of their own nation). Many of our nation's best have left behind widows and children in defense of you, me, the citizens of this nation and people of other lands, as well. They have willingly and bravely done so knowing the cost involved in their volunteerism.
Thank GOD they have or you and I might be speaking some other language (ie. - German or Japanese) and may very well have been living without the many blessings and freedoms we have today. That would include your freedom to call these brave, self-sacrificing, and heroic men and woman "murderers". Killing innocent and defenseless children in their mothers womb - many times because of lustful pleasure or the extreme selfishness of merely not wanting to be inconvenienced by them is "murder" - plain and unadulterated. I see so many times on blogs such as yours the mention of "love" and the need for more of it. But, what hypocrisy to label as murderers those who have paid the supreme sacrifice for you and me and so many others in labeling them and their fellow military personnel as murderers. How willing are you to lay down your life for another - even one of who is not of your own country? Have you forgotten that which says, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.” (John 15:13)? You can say what you want about the rest of us, but your calling those who have fought for your "freedom" to take and express your "journey" that you are taking murderers is flat wrong, disrespectful, and most ungrateful. I hope you will really reconsider what you have called these men and women who serve our nation and carefully weigh your words next time you write.

There are an awful lot of assumptions you make, Anonymous, and they all carry that tinge of "Thus saith the Lord." Do you really think that your view is the only right one and anyone else who doesn't hold as you do must be wrong?

I really find it irritating when people put their views onto other people while obviously not really caring at all about entering into any sort of conversation. Your comment has that ring about it, the "I'm gonna put forward my opinion and teach that girl a thing or two." I tend to find that those sorts of attitudes mean that whatever someone says, regardless of how much good or truth or wisdom there is in there, will fall on flat ears, to a certain extent. The fact you couldn't even put your name to it ... well ...

Anonymous…

All I said is that they have probably committed murders, meaning they have killed innocent lives in the process of killing the enemy. Which is a fact… If you don’t want to face this fact, you aren't living in reality. Though why should I try to 'convince' you to believe this? You will go on believing what you will and that is completely fine with me...

People believe that war and violence is the solution, where I don't agree. I am looking forward to the day where we don't have to turn to such hate...

This blog entry obviously got on your bad side, and frankly, that is not my problem, but yours.

You have a right to speak your mind, as you did, and so do I...

Sue, thank you... And I agree!

Those who can't 'man up' and show themselves is someone who obviously is afraid of showing their identity and doesn't care to have a productive conversation about anything. But is only concerned about sticking their big nose out there to make sure we notice that he doesn't like what he smells. . .

Let me first say that I can appreciate a unique angle of thought on the topics of today's world. While some pen their thoughts to inspire others, some put their thoughts into words for purely personal reasons. While I can't speak for why you blog, the fact that you offer the option for us to comment lends itself to be somewhere in the realm of both. Having both worlds, in theory, is nice. But you must be willing to at least ponder the thoughts of people commenting, if you want people to, at the very least, ponder yours. Regardless of what they tag themselves to be, their thoughts might be from a point of view that will, in your own mind, either validate your point or offer perspective to enhance your beliefs to a new level. Regardless of whether or not they identify themselves, the idea that you mock their individual thoughts takes away from the concept of an open blog. And to be honest, might just leave a certain taste in the mouth of everyone who takes the time to read your thoughts. If you want only like-minded people to read and respond, then you should probably make note of that somewhere. If is a venue for you and your friends to bait people in, only to mock and show your single-mindedness, again, make note of that somewhere. Everyday, people like to quote the turn of phrase or a poem or even a quote from the most famous writer in history..'Anonymous'. That being said, I can appreciate that you have decided to put your thoughts down in writing. And again, you have offered up the option to comment, so I will do so. I even made sure that I gave myself a name so as not to, at least in that regard, suffer any backlash from you and your like-minded friends. If I can offer up any advice, I think we need to be careful when we try to validate a stance on such a strong issue as abortion by comparing it to another strong issue like war. While we can't debate the definition of the word 'murder', we need realize that the world of abortion and the world of military/war are in completely different worlds. You seem to be someone who stands on the side of conservative from a "FAITH" perspective. Gathering your beliefs on scriptural teachings/commentary and forming that into your stance of what is right or wrong. Trying to combine individual beliefs on two completely different topics such as these will lead to nowhere. The topics are totally different from one another. Each requiring its own time to form a stance either for or against. The reason is that abortion is primarily cut and dry. Other than in a couple of scenarios, ie. rape, incest, one can form an opinion. But in regards to war, the need to form a stance comes and goes with each military action. Do we give the battles of the Old Testament a free pass just because they were "sanctioned" by GOD? Do we not assume that there were innocent people that occupied the 'Promised Land'? Don't get me wrong, I don't believe that the military actions of today are done in the name of GOD.

But we also have to realize that in some cases military action has freed nations of oppressed people. We also have to realize that in some military actions, "our best interest" as a nation must be protected. Do we require our nation to be economically strong but not do the things to protect our fiscal interest? Of course the argument of how that relates to what our economy looks like now. But would we be in the situation we are in without having been an economic superpower before the collapse. we supposed to remove any and all resemblenAre ce of a military just because there are a roque few? Do we remove a military just because we all just want to "get along"? In that case we'll have to throw the whole "human nature" idea out the window. Let's just assume that people will not want to do us harm. Do we call down the actions of "our greatest generation" and WWII based solely on the fact that the possibility of 'murder' was committed? I'm sure there are Germans, even today, who would say they despise America because their great-uncle or great-grandfather was killed during our military movement into Germany. Are you going to stand in front of that WWII veteran on Veterans Day and call him a murderer? Our national landscape is covered with people who have feelings against a certain element of society. Are there bad cops? Are there bad teachers? What do we say about Priests and does that correlate to every denomination of religious leader. Do you think there are parents who have had children victimized by female teachers. What about people who have to deal with racial profiling from cops? I saw a story on the news the other day about a family who thought something was up with their nanny and utilized the ol' "nanny-cam". Should all of these people harbor feelings against all cops, teachers, clergy and child-care workers? In that case lets remove all cops, teachers, clergy and the need for a nanny. Being for or against war is one thing. Being for or against abortion is a completely different topic. If I'm against military and war based on the fact that I saw someone kill innocent people on you-tube, I damn sure better be ready to stand in front of that WWII veteran or that 18 year old kid home on leave and call him a murderer. Actually, what you're telling me is that I don't even have to watch you-tube. I just have to be against abortion.

Hmm, DMoney, well I must say you made very good points and perhaps that was your only goal to engage in this conversation.

As far as Anonymous goes, this person has more than likely been here before and I am sure I probably know this person from my past who comes here from time to time to stir the pot and cause a scene, so in this case I am always cautious in engaging in conversations with people who first say, 'no offense' when these people who don't know me anymore come to just antagonize me from past experiences on my blog that I have had. Even when I 'know' who it may be, they still hide behind this veil like a coward, so to me, anonymous could be those people...

Secondly, I hate politics like I said, and I actually 'question' a lot when it comes to republican/conservative values, even though my 'faith' as you call it would tie in nicely to my politics which I have NOT proclaimed to have. Do I believe in a deity? Yes, but to assume and put labels on that or the details of what I believe will not give you the cut and dry answers you are probably used to getting or looking for. If you want more info, don’t hesitate to ask…

As far as my blog entry subjects go, is there a reason why you are asking me so many questions? Because really? I am not sure I can really answer them all. You made good points in your comments as I said before and made me think a lot! I understand that Military action and abortion are two completely different issues that I think many juggle and sort through where they stand on them… My goal however, wasn’t necessarily to veto all military actions but in and among that, as you are probably well aware of is that in every system like the military or sanctions, such as pro-choice, there is corruption. Maybe I didn’t come up with a very good argument, but perhaps that wasn’t the goal here in this blog post. I was simply stating two things here that I see similarities in and wanted to write about it. It’s really that simple, nothing more, nothing less. If you want to make something more out of it, like you sound you do, be my guest, though I am not sure how much more I have to offer you in this topic of discussion honestly!

Thanks for coming by...
