Driven By Influence

I have come to the conclusion that I love to be intellectual; to dig deeper into the meaning behind human behavior and character. I want to know why people act the way they do, what brings them to the place they find themselves to be in, and what keeps them there. My husband once said that people are ever changing. That might be true to a certain degree, but what never seems to change in many is their perception of consistency and certainty. They have drawn conclusions and ideas, or have had others draw it for them that bring them to a point of utter truth, they then refuse to believe or see any other way. The older they get, the more they get set in their ways.
People are easily swayed by other people. The influence that a man has on another is strong and can be very motivating to adjust and change a man’s perception and ideas, especially in religious institutional thinking, and or religious anything. One might think that influence is man’s greatest asset. I think it’s the most dangerous one. But isn’t that how the world works though? Systems run by how many people they can tally up by pulling influential strings. They think they have accomplished something when the people they have gathered are blind. Blind to the fact they have been trapped; trapped by an influential spin that gains them nothing and turns their world upside down. Why care if they are influenced? Because I think not to care would be foolish. Could my caring turn into the need for influential gain? I would say, yes, one could draw this conclusion of my blog outlet. But what would I gain if that was my purpose? Like-minded opinions? Wouldn’t it be harder and most uncertain if my entire purpose was not to influence or try and alter opinion, but instead, to love and be myself regardless of what people thought? No matter if they liked what I had to say or not. Half the stuff I have written on my blog has not won many favor’s bur rather it has rubbed people the wrong way. It would be much easier if I wrote what people wanted to hear, based on their own opinions and influence they have had on my life. One who takes my blogs this way, needs to take a deep breath before they start getting defensive and judgmental. It only does these individuals more harm than anything else! Anyone has a right to believe what they want. I would like to gain the same respect!

I think when you are trying to see life as it is (whatever that means; we are all so blinded by our own perceptions that none of us ever really ever seen anything in its totality how it is, or at least that is my perception at this time, hah! ;)

Where was I? Oh, yeah. I think when you're trying to see life as it is, and willing to stand out in that space, it is so horribly lonely, alienating, and terrifying. This is a part of what life is. And this is why we so desire to take refuge in things that comfort us, which is wonderful and necessary and good. But sometimes I think those things that comfort us turn into our fortresses as well.

A person who is working out what they think about things, who is searching and questioning and doubting, is a particularly dangerous sort of a person in a terrifying world. Keep going, Nicole. I think it is an amazing thing to watch someone striving to do and be what it is their birthright to do and be. (I think of that Jewish saying - I was thinking about it last night actually - where the man stands before God and God says to him that he never wanted him to be more like Moses or more like Abraham, but why wasn't he more like himself? That's the hardest thing in the end. It's terrifying. Gotta face all your demons along the way.

Sorry for this long-winded comment Nicole, haha! :) You came into my mind yesterday, and if holding you there and hoping for strength and courage, and admiring your tenacity is prayer, then I prayed for you yesterday :)

Wow! If find your posts so amazing. You are so adamant against people coming to their own personal conclusions and being set in their own ways. Yet, your blogs do that very thing. More so and more confusing is that while you are so set in your stands about "religious people" and their beliefs you keep saying that you really haven't come to any real final and definitive conclusion about life - as you are still on your "journey". You are on a "journey" that - by your own writings - appears to lead to some of your very own and expressed uncertainties. Such a "journey" is your own choice to take and you have the freedom to do that. But, in the course of your "Journey Worth Taking" and your pursuit of "freedom to be yourself and express yourself" please keep it on a consistent track. Allow for others to "take their journey" and come to their own conclusions - such as you are still endeavoring to do and have by your own writings have done. Allow them to be just as convinced in what they believe and to have the freedom to express themselves as you do and as you freely practice. Yes, the conclusions may conflict. But, if you insist that they come to the same conclusion(s)you have and if you get upset with them because they haven't done so, then you in every sense of the word are no different. Right? Oh yes, you have mentioned in your writings how that "religious" people are influenced by others and are caught in the "trap" of such. Yet, have you not mentioned in your own writings how that you have read this and that book and have been influenced and are being influenced by such and such a person? Question: What's the difference? Answer: None and each person or group does have the freedom to do that. Yes, you have some beliefs that I would agree with and many I don't. But, you and I do have the "freedom" to believe as we do. No doubt their are beliefs that you have that I most definitely would like to see you depart from - especially in light of what God's Holy and inerrant Word has to say about them. I do not deny the fact that you would certainly like to see me change my thinking in various areas so as to come along side yours. You have that freedom and I honor it, but I do question and disagree with your firm stands against others who don't agree with you while at the same time taking offense with those who with differing views from yours do the same.

Freedom of expression and beliefs and the freedom to convey those to others ought to be the same for all. Would you agress? [Selah - stop and think about this]

Nothing personal. Just expressing my beliefs and thoughts in the same freedom we all have.

Sue, I've been meaning to get on and comment with what you had to say and I haven't made the time to do so until now! Thanks for coming here and just blessing me with your thoughts. I get lifted everytime! I admire how you see things and it helps me see things more clearer! We all struggle at times when we are striving to find a way through this journey, especially towards Father! And its true, it can be very lonely at times. It's so encouraging to know I am not the only soul out there who thinks differently than most!

Muah my friend!

Aww, thanks Nicole. I always admire people who are walking forward into growth and being willing to face it. Because I can't believe how hard this whole journey is sometimes. Seriously. I am grateful we cannot see into the future. One day at a time is sometimes more than enough to deal with!! :)
