A Tangible God

I think it’s hard to understand how tangible God is, because it’s hard to imagine being close to a spiritual being for a lot of people. The term Christian or Christianity has become more strictly about what we can ‘see’ and ‘do’ and not really about having a spiritual connection with a God who is inter-connected to us in the spiritual sense. Going to a church building and ‘doing’ certain things is something that is touchable. We can easily do things for God, or understand things about God but not really see how we can be connected with him because it seems that the spiritual side of Christianity seems to be hard to wrap our minds around. When I talk about God to someone I always say I have a personal relationship with Him, however, I think that is like telling someone that you have been to space and actually got to see the earth revolve around the sun; It’s really hard to imagine how that is possible because of the personal experience that it gives seems so foreign for a lot of folks. I even think that some people’s perception of God can also keep them away from having a real tangible relationship with him. If someone thinks God is to be feared, than that fear can keep them away from God. Why would anyone want to be close to a God who is angry or waiting to punish you once you blow it? I totally wouldn’t want to be close to a God like that. Perceptions of how we think about God really play a huge role in how close we allow ourselves to really be with him. How do we break down this mind barrier that keeps us spiritually distant from really knowing who God is personally? Doing things for God and understand who God is, from what the bible says doesn’t cut it for me. It simply just brushes on the surface of who God is to you personally. I want more than that, much more because I have experienced a sense of spiritual connections with Father that I cannot simply explain in words… I think what individuals experience is something that they can’t simply explain, but the experience in us speaks for itself. What I mean is this. We were created in His image, and when we are inter-connected with him, our life can’t express anything else but who he is to others through us. I find this to be a remarkable sense of reality in my life. I know I am not perfect or even come close, but this kind of living is not about being perfect or a competition of who is closer to Father. It’s about authenticity with our Father and experiencing this is like capturing a breathtaking sunset for the first time, though there is no comparison to the realness that is experienced. I think even on this earth we aren’t even coming close to the more real experience that awaits us when we are face to face with Father.

About a year ago I came to the place in my life where I finally faced the truth that if what I knew of this Christian life I was living was all there was then it really wasn't that great. That is when I called out to God and every bit of me asked Him to reveal Himself to me. I really wanted to know Him and have a relationship with Him. I didn't know how, when, or what would be coming, but God has made me aware of Him revealing himself to me almost daily. I say this not with a "look at me" tone but I am really amazed and often humored by what God does! It is almost like the conversation He and I have is not so much of words, though there are those too, but the conversation is lived out each day. The first thing that God plopped in my lap after I asked this the book The Shack. There are so many golden nuggets in there that God continues to open my eyes and heart to! From there over the last 9 months there have been some really really tough adventures but God has made those tough times so valuable in teaching me so much about Him and me. I wouldn't change a thing. Each time He reveals Himself it is like seeing those amazing sunsets you compared it to! You are so right!
The relationship is tangible and reaches deep into us where things of this world can't really touch. But explaining all this to others doesn't work well for me. Not sure if that is because I am so in the midst of this new learning, because God has them on their own journey experiencing Him just where they are, or if this is not really to be explained but experienced as he reveals Himself to others when they are ready.
This is a journey worth taking as you say! ;)

Praise Him! Lindsay, I just read something that stuck out to me that I somewhat knew about but never could really capture the meaning until now.

"Transformation is a process, a journey, not a one-time occurrence."

This is true with having a tangible relationship with Father, Its not just a one time occurrence, like when you accept him as your Lord and Savior, but, its ongoing from that moment on if you choose to live in this kind of relationship with him. I find it sad to find that many professed Christians don't seem to experience God in this way, but instead, they seem to be perfectly fine jumping religious hoops that only stops the transformational journey they could have with God once they accept him.

I think what you have been through with Father is precious and how Father has got your attention to how tangible he really is, but like you said, this is very hard to explain to others, but my hope is to expose this tangible side of Father through the way I live and love others. I think that is His hope too. :)

You have great thoughts! Thank you for coming by and opening up! It excites me to find others who can experience things as I do!

Nicole - You are right, fear being the biggest hindrance, stopping people from coming to God. "While we were yet sinners, He loved us...". Unless we see that *love*, it's either no relationship or a fear-based relationship. And make no mistake, fear-based relationship can never get intimate... It's a dead thing. There is no life in such relationships.

Amen Bino! Simply a dead relationship if fear is involved!

The thing that I keep reminding myself is, if I just continue to live like I am loved by Father regardless of what I do, than a tangible relationship with God is much more likely to occur!

Great thoughts!

I awoke this morning attempting to express to God how desperately I need Him. Psalm 42:1-4 came to heart. I was thinking how being on earth the need for humans to have physical touch and relatioships of love for survival.being human we have a tendency to want this from God. How do we touch God this way? I asked myself is God tangible in a sense of our physical need to be touched as humans? I believe He is. However, God is spiritually tangible and His love is demostrated to us by each other and the healthy relationships He blesses us with. His love is shone through others.I googled the question is God tangible. What I read on your blog answered my question and spoke clearly to my heart. I don't think there is a better way to explain that He is. Thank you my sister for sharing what God has showed you.
Blessings
